Techcelerant designed logos for four organizations that deliver their service through technology: CloudTech, a cloud computing and IT company; MindHealth Telepsychiatry, an online mental health practice; Online Violin Academy, which teaches violin over the internet; and the National School Security Information Sharing System, a network for sharing school safety information. Each needed a logo that explains a service people can't see or touch, and that earns trust quickly.

The client

These four clients work in very different fields, but they share a challenge. Their product lives on a screen. Nobody walks past a CloudTech server room or a MindHealth office. People meet these brands on a website, in an app store, in an email or on a video call, so the logo carries much of the first impression.

CloudTech sells cloud and IT services to businesses. MindHealth Telepsychiatry connects patients with psychiatric care over video. Online Violin Academy teaches students to play from home. The National School Security Information Sharing System gives schools a way to share security information, and it needed to look official to the school leaders and agencies who use it.

The problem

Each field has its own clichés. Tech logos often reach for a generic cloud or a swirl. Mental health logos often use a plain head silhouette, which can feel clinical. Online learning brands tend to look like software, while music schools tend to look old-fashioned. Security programs need to look serious without looking threatening, especially when the subject is schools and children.

We also had to plan for small screens. App icons, browser tabs and video call backgrounds are tiny, so every mark needed a symbol that holds up on its own.

What we built

  • CloudTech: a cloud outline with circuit lines growing up from its base, each ending in a small node. CLOUD is set in a wide, open sans serif and TECH in a heavier weight. We presented it as brushed metal letters mounted on a dark office wall.
  • MindHealth Telepsychiatry: a light blue outline of a brain that tapers at the bottom into a speech bubble. Inside, a tree branches out with leaves in green, orange and gold. Mind is set in gold and Health in blue, with TELEPSYCHIATRY in spaced orange capitals below.
  • Online Violin Academy: the violin body is shaped like a computer mouse, and the cord curls up into the violin's scroll and pegs before running into the word online. The name is written in a navy script with ACADEMY in clean capitals, and the violin body is filled with soft warm gray.
  • National School Security Information Sharing System: a round seal with a gold outer ring and navy lettering. At the center sits a navy shield with a keyhole, an open book below it and laurel branches on either side.

Design decisions

We tied each symbol to what the client actually does, then joined two ideas into one shape where it made sense. The CloudTech mark joins a cloud and a circuit board, so it reads as cloud computing and hardware support together. The MindHealth mark joins a brain with a speech bubble, because telepsychiatry happens through conversation, and the tree inside adds a sense of growth and recovery. The violin and mouse combination tells students in a single image that this is music taught online.

The seal took a more formal route. Schools, districts and agencies expect an official look, so we used a classic round seal, navy and gold, and a traditional serif. The shield and keyhole stand for security, and the book makes clear the subject is education.

Color sets the tone for each. CloudTech uses monochrome gray, which suits a technical business and looks good as metal signage. MindHealth uses soft blues, greens and oranges to feel calm and hopeful. The violin academy uses navy and warm gray for a classic, quiet feel. Each logo also has a symbol-only version for app icons, favicons and profile images.

The result

All four organizations now have logos that work on websites, apps, video calls, documents and signs. Each symbol tells a newcomer what the service is before they read the name. CloudTech has a mark that looks right on an office wall and in a browser tab. MindHealth has a logo that feels welcoming for patients. Online Violin Academy has a memorable image for its lessons. The school security network has a seal that looks at home on official documents.
