Caliber is a strength training company that coaches people through science-based workouts, nutrition and habit building. Techcelerant designed and built its app for iOS and Android. The app gives members a strength score, a weekly training plan, workout and weight logging, community groups, coach support, Google sync and in-app notifications.

The client

Caliber's approach is built on evidence: personalized strength programs, nutrition guidance and steady habits that last. Members range from beginners to experienced lifters. Many work with a Caliber coach, and all of them benefit from seeing progress over time and having other people to train alongside.

The problem

Members were following plans from documents and messages, and logging lifts in notes apps or on paper. That made it hard to see progress, hard for coaches to check in, and easy for members to lose momentum. The client's team wanted one place for the plan, the log, the coach and the community.

The goals were:

  • Give each member a clear measure of where they stand.
  • Put the week's training in front of them every day.
  • Make logging workouts and body weight quick.
  • Connect members with groups and their coach.

What we built

The home screen covers the member's status and today's work:

  • A Strength Score card with a semicircle gauge, a level label such as Beginner, and recent point changes. Cards can be swiped to see other scores.
  • A "This Week" calendar strip that marks completed days with a check and highlights today.
  • A quick log for body weight, with a red "+" button for adding entries.
  • Today's exercises as cards, each with a muscle diagram, the exercise name and the target, such as four sets of eight to twelve reps for a machine seated row.
  • A Training Plan tab with the full program.
  • Groups, where members join community groups, share progress and talk with others.
  • A Notifications tab for coach messages, reminders and group activity.
  • Sync with Google, so account sign-in and activity data connect to the tools members already use.
  • An "Upgrade" button in the header for members moving to a higher plan.

Design decisions

Caliber's logo pairs a red emblem with white type on dark navy. We carried that into the app with a navy top section and red for primary actions. The white cards on top hold the data, so numbers and exercise names stay sharp.

The strength score leads the home screen because it sums up progress in one number. A gauge is easy to read and gives members a target to work toward.

Muscle diagrams on each exercise card show, in red, which muscles the movement works. Beginners learn what each exercise is for, and experienced lifters can scan a session quickly.

We kept sets and reps in a small pill under each exercise name. Members can see the target before they open the exercise, which speeds up a session in the gym.

The bottom bar has five labeled tabs: Home, Training Plan, Groups, Notifications and Menu. Each maps to something members do every week.

The result

Caliber members now have their plan, progress and community in one app on the App Store and Google Play. They can check their strength score, see the week's workouts, log lifts and body weight, join groups, hear from their coach and sync with Google. The client's team has a single place to deliver programs and keep members engaged between sessions.
